WPL 2024: Unveiling the Thrilling Highlights of the Women’s Premiere League Action – Latest Updates

Prior to the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore wanted to establish a name that went beyond simply winning titles. It was inspired by its long-standing relationship with the Indian Premier League, where the men’s team, despite not having yet won a championship, is still popular among home supporters thanks to the star power of players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli, as well as strong marketing and advertising support.

RCB’s women’s team is currently attempting to strike a balance between the same brand-building and on-field success. Even though Smriti Mandhana’s team struggled in the first season, they have improved this year thanks to a potent roster.

During the WPL 2024 season, the RCB women made their stage debut in front of their home audience. 26,000 voices blended into a deafening scream as the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, located in the center of Bengaluru, pulsated with energy. Smriti Mandhana saw the tremendous response she received during the toss in their tournament debut versus UP Warriorz as an example of the steadfast support she received at home.

Mandhana stated, “It was wonderful to be around the fans, especially during that toss,” in a conversation with Sportstar. For at least the next two to three years, I doubt I will forget that particular moment. That’s really amazing, so I’ll definitely keep that in the back of my mind. What Mel (Jones) was saying there was not audible to me.

“We’ve heard a lot about the RCB supporters, but we’ve only had a brief taste of what they’re really like. Rather than feeling under pressure, we will welcome their support. I heard Sophie (Molineux) say that the crowd was boosting our total by 20, and that’s true since they applauded each run, wicket, and dot as well,” she grinned proudly.

Even for a veteran like Ellyse Perry, who is used to the highest level of athletic success, RCB’s return was truly historic. It was an entirely novel experience.

It was very unique. And I believe that these things continue to occur in women’s cricket right now, like it just gets better and bigger every year.

Perry, whose remarkable career includes victories in football and cricket, finds that the appeal of these kinds of encounters never fades. Even though the WPL was amazing last year, traveling to Bangalore and playing in front of our home crowd at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was something I had never had the opportunity to do before. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. So it’s really simple for me to stay inspired and carry on doing what I love,” she said.

It is easier for Mandhana to lead a young and energetic team when players like Sophie Devine are on the team, something that is sometimes neglected from a leadership perspective.

“We’ve always played against each other for like eight to ten years, so when the auction came last year, I wasn’t sure how Perry and Devine would adjust to being on your team. We’re both, I believe, reserved individuals, therefore I don’t think we’ve ever spoken to each other while playing.

Eventually, things worked out more smoothly than anticipated as the opponents turned into teammates chasing the same goal.

We grew closer over their kind support last year, she said. “Last year, the campaign didn’t go the way we wanted, but when things are going well, you may not really understand the value, but when things are not going well and then when we stick together, I think that’s what makes these guys special.”

They helped me a lot and seemed to have everyone together because of their experience. We had a conversation right away this year as we were getting to know one another. It’s incredible that they exist.

Both of them serve as role models for many young people in India, so Mandhana said, “I’m glad Perry is supporting us and not the opposite side.
