“The operation of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), Navi Mumbai Metro, the expansion of the Sion-Panvel Highway, as well as the proposed coastal road, have made NMIA a preferred destination for those staying in the maximum city as well as the satellite city, aside from the nearby cities, as far as infrastructural development is concerned,” the source stated.

August 2021 saw the start of construction on the NMIA site and the transfer of ownership, but March 2022 saw the financial closure of the AAHL. In order to develop Phase I and II (20 MPA) facilities, the NMIAL gave its EPC contractor, L&T Construction, a notice to proceed (NTP) in June 2022. The construction of the Terminal 1 building started in November 2022.
